Tom
McHale - Managing
Partner
McHale offers
clients valuable perspective on successful business communications
gained from dual careers in the press and public relations. His
experience spans 25 years of tracking technology businesses in the
semiconductor, communications, computing and nanosciences sectors
– both
as a PR consultant and a business journalist in Asia and the U.S.
Prior to launching the McHale & Dunne strategic communications
consultancy in 2005, McHale
worked with global PR giants Edelman and Brodeur Worldwide. His
client list reads like a Who’s Who
of high-tech: Samsung, Siemens, Infineon, LSI Logic, Applied Materials,
and many others.
For McHale, PR is all about wielding communications as a competitive
weapon. It’s about
communicating to position products, intellectual capital and brands
to win clients the best possible
ROI. In Silicon Valley, McHale developed thought leadership programs
for Samsung that helped the Korean giant’s NAND Flash memory
devices win attention and design wins in “Jump Drives”,
MP3
players and 3G handsets – and to emerge as the defacto standard
in mobile memory designs
against the long established NOR Flash memory.
In Oregon, McHale was instrumental in raising national awareness
of ONAMI (the Oregon
Nanosciences and Microtechnology Institute) with stories from Businessweek,
Dow Jones, the Washington Times, and Electronic Engineering Times.
The campaign was influential in helping
Oregon win almost $50M in federal commitments for ONAMI. At Siemens,
he worked with
European and American PR teams to develop communications strategies
to support one of the
largest trans-Atlantic IPO as Siemens spun off its semiconductor
unit on New York and German
stock exchanges as Infineon Technologies.
